 日本のアオテアロア・アイヌモシリ交流プログラム代表の島田あけみと申します。先住民アイヌとして、自分たちの土地、人々、聖地、そして環境を守るために「ダコタ・アクセス・パイプライン」(DAPL)に対する反対運動に取り組んでいる先住民の兄弟姉妹たちへの連帯を皆さんに呼びかけます。

三菱東京UFJ銀行、三井住友銀行、みずほ銀行の3社が15億ドル（1704億円）の投資をDAPLに行っていることがわかっています。DAPL建設計画の当初からスタンディングロック・スー族はこの計画に反対していました。それにも関わらず、DAPLは、条約で守られているはずの彼らの土地を通るルートで計画され、彼らにとっての唯一の水源と聖地を汚染の危機に晒しています。それだけでなく、このパイプラインはノースダコタ州からイリノイ州にかけて４つの州にまたがり、数百もの水脈を横切るため、1700万人への水の供給が脅かされます。

DAPLへの抗議運動に参加している、AIM(アメリカインディアン運動)の創始者デニス・バンクスさんはDAPLについて、こう言っています。「私たちは山の一部です。私たちは海の一部です。私たちは川の一部です。私たちは花や草や木の一部です。こうしたものすべてが私たちの一部なのです。だから、連中が環境を脅かすときには、それがどこであろうと、彼らはあなたという存在を脅かしているのです。」この言葉は、自然は誰のものでもなく、すべてを生かし、育んでくれるというアイヌの考え方と重なり合っています。こうした叡智を私たちに残してくれた先祖のためにも、私はアメリカ先住民のDAPL抗議運動と連帯したいと思います。

 先祖によっていまを生かされている一人のアイヌとして、上記の銀行に対し、DAPLへの資金提供を直ちに打ち切るよう求める署名に協力して下さるようお願いいたします。

Petition endorsement: Japanese Big Banks: Stop funding human and environmental rights abuses at DAPL now!

My name is Akemi Shimada and I am the chair of the Aotearoa Ainumosir Exchange Program. As an indigenous Ainu, I ask you to join us in solidarity with our indigenous brothers and sisters opposing the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) in defense of their land, people, sacred sites, and environment.

We have learned that three Japanese banks, Mizuho Bank, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Bank, and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group are crucial stakeholders, contributing 1.5 billion US dollars in funds for this project. In spite of vehement opposition by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe since the plan’s inception, DAPL is to be constructed through their unceded traditional lands, threatening the Tribe’s sole water source and sacred sites. Crossing four states and hundreds of waterways between North Dakota and Illinois, the pipeline also poses a risk to the safety of the water supply of some 17 million people.

Co-founder of the American Indian Movement (AIM), Dennis Banks, who is actively participating in the protests against DAPL stated: “We are part mountain. We are part ocean. We are part river. We are part flower, and grass, and tree. All of this, we are part of all of it, so that when they threaten the environment anyplace, they’re threatening you.” These words resonate and find commonality with the Ainu ways of thinking: nature is not something to be possessed, rather it gives life and allows us to grow. With the words of wisdom of our Ainu ancestors in mind, I would like to express my solidarity with the Native American movement against DAPL.

As one Ainu who owes her way of life to what our ancestors have carefully safeguarded for us, I ask for your cooperation. Please sign this petition and urge the above institutions to withdraw their investment in DAPL immediately.
